[ARCHIVED] Press Release Regarding Voting in Westbrook

October 29, 2020

Press Release

First Selectman Bishop

Town of Westbrook, Ct.

We are all aware that there is considerable national discussion and often contentious debate about procedures for voting on November 3, 2020.

I want to assure you that through the efforts of the Town Clerk and Registrars offices, staff has been engaged for several months of careful planning on a daily basis to insure that your municipal government is well prepared for the election on November 3rd.

Joan Angelini, Town Clerk, has provided the following statement:

“The Westbrook voters need to be assured that the Town Clerk and staff are executing policies and procedures put in place by the Secretary of the State.  Westbrook residents can feel confident that their absentee ballots will be processed safely and their votes will be counted.  The Town Clerk has brought in temporary staff to assist with the issuing and processing of absentee ballots.  Be reminded that the polls will be open on Election Day, November 3rd from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. if you wish to vote in person.”

Additionally, our Registrar’s office has doubled the amount of experienced poll workers to count absentee ballots.   The Drop Box, located at the Town Hall, is extremely secure and allows for no contact voting.  Counting of the absentee ballots will commence at 6:00 a.m. on November 3rd and it is anticipated that Westbrook’s election results will be available on November 3rd, barring some unforeseen issues.

I am very confident, as First Selectman that our professional staff has done everything possible to assure that the integrity of the voting process will be strictly adhered to in Westbrook.

Finally, I encourage every eligible voter to vote.   You will note signage and floor markings posted throughout the Town Hall outlining CDC guidelines, including social distancing, masks, face guards, hand sanitizers, etc.   All staff will be wearing masks and our Health Director has instructed all individuals working at the polls to adhere to strict CDC Covid-19 guidelines.  The public should also wear masks.
